List of Lovejoy episodes

This is a list of episodes of the British television show Lovejoy which first aired between 1986 and 1994. The first season was broadcast in 1986, with a five-year hiatus between that and the second season in 1991.

Though there was a recurring supporting cast, the only actor to appear in all 73 episodes was Ian McShane who played the eponymous role of Lovejoy, a roguish antiques dealer.

Series 1

"The Firefly Cage"	10 January 1986	East Anglian antiques dealer Lovejoy agrees to take on a new assistant, Eric. He also runs into Lady Jane Felsham for the first time, and the two quickly build up a bond disrupted only by the mystery around a Japanese firefly cage and her husband, Lord Alexander.
"The Axeman Cometh"	17 January 1986	Lovejoy acquires a valuable dressing table from under the nose of a Charlie Gimbert, using underhand methods. He quickly becomes the target of a violent axe-wielding maniac who has hidden his own valuables in the dresser.
"The Sting"	24 January 1986	Lovejoy schemes to acquire some very valuable porcelain figures.
"Friends, Romans and Enemies"	31 January 1986	Lovejoy comes across Roman coins which he believes are genuine. However, the tangle in the tail revolves around the coins being deposited on the Isle of Man, at the very time when it is established, that ancient Rome did not colonise the Island. Undeterred, however, Lovejoy makes his way to the Island in order to stake his claim upon the coins. Unfortunately for Lovejoy, his endeavours involve various entanglements with certain people who are also aware of the prize, which awaits the person who should be lucky enough to unlock the mystery which surrounds the hoard - the clue to the mystery being that the coins have a link to the famous Laxey Wheel.
"The Judas Pair"	7 February 1986	Lovejoy is hired by the family of a murdered man, apparently killed by a pair of duelling pistols. One of his biggest obstacles is that nobody seems to believe they exist.
"To Sleep No More"	14 February 1986	When a man who arranged to meet Lovejoy at the local cricket game dies, it's up to Lovejoy to find the fortune that was promised to the widow.
"The Real Thing"	21 February 1986	In order to escape his creditors, Lovejoy heads to Norwich for a few days where he acquires a job working for Tony Palmer who is setting up a new antiques showroom in the city. However, he soon begins to suspect that his new employer is not entirely honest.
"The March of Time"	28 February 1986	Lovejoy has to decide whether some Napoleonic love letters, written by a young British officer to his sweetheart during the Peninsular War are genuine. The involvement of Charlie Gimbert, as ever, muddies the situation.
"Death and Venice" (part one)	7 March 1986	After a friend and fellow antiques dealer is murdered, Lovejoy runs across a sinister syndicate who have mysterious dealings in the city of Venice. Unconvinced by their explanations, Lovejoy travels to Italy to try to establish just what they are up to.
"Death and Venice" (part two)	14 March 1986	Lovejoy becomes involved in a plan to strip Venice of its art treasures, which the syndicate fears will be destroyed through floods and neglect if they do not act. When he tries to thwart their plans, he quickly becomes a target for assassination by the syndicate.

"Just Desserts"	6 January 1991	After being released from prison, Lovejoy returns to his old haunts and begins to rebuild his friendship with Lady Jane. He begins to seek out those who had framed him, and discovers why he had been set up.
"The Italian Venus"	13 January 1991	Lovejoy meets an obnoxious aristocrat who has tricked his younger brother, an artist, out of his share of the family's wealth. Discovering an Italian statue which had been lost for more than a century in the grounds of the family house, he concocts a scheme to right the wrong between the two brothers.
"Bin Diving"	20 January 1991	Lovejoy comes under suspicion from the local police for a series of burglaries committed in the area. Eric meanwhile falls foul of the local rubbish collectors, who believe he is muscling in on their patch.
"Montezuma's Revenge"	27 January 1991	Lovejoy is approached to sell a small Mayan statue belonging to a rock band, which is supposedly cursed. After several murders have taken place, Lovejoy discovers it would be worth even more if it could be reattached to its raft. He begins to suspect that there is not a curse, but simply someone willing to kill to acquire both pieces.
"Who Dares Sings"	3 February 1991	Lovejoy agrees to outfit a pub being opened by an old army comrade of Tinker. His efforts are hampered by the loss of his car, and the discovery that he has played an unwitting part in a house burglary. He also discovers that Tinker was not an officer, as he had assumed, but a former Corporal.
"One Born Every Minute"	10 February 1991	Lovejoy is hired by a serving army officer to track down a travelling artist Ashley Wilkes. Wilkes specialises in painting pictures and seducing bored housewives. The reason for Lovejoy's mission though, is to do with stolen military documents, rather than marital infidelity.
"National Wealth"	17 February 1991	A European criminal gang has launched a series of raids on English country mansions, stripping them of their finest antiques. Lovejoy helps the police to try to track down those responsible. Tinker gets a chance to meet a film actress he has admired for many years.
"Sugar and Spice"	24 February 1991	Lovejoy visits his daughter's public school for speech day. He is approached by one of the girls to sell some erotic art sketches which he quickly deduces have been stolen from the school. When he tries to report the theft to the headmistress, she angrily denies that the sketches belonged to the school.
"Raise the Hispanic"	3 March 1991	While attending a society wedding, Lovejoy witnesses the unfaithful behaviour of the bridegroom. When he is later found dead, Lovejoy is tasked with finding the culprit. What he eventually finds is a trail leading back to South America more than twenty years before.
"Lily's Pearls"	10 March 1991	Lord Felsham has gone into business with a shady financier, who Lovejoy takes an instant dislike to. He soon discovers that he has dishonourable intentions, but struggles to convince Felsham that something is awry.
"The Black Virgin of Vladimir"	24 March 1991	At a charity auction, Lovejoy meets a wealthy Greek who tells him of the fortunes to be made exporting priceless antiques from the former Eastern Bloc. Lovejoy helps a Japanese businessman get back at the Greek with the help of a balding forger and a Russian Relic.

In repeats "The Black Virgin of Vladimir" is sometimes cut into two parts with the first part entitled "Riding in Rollers".

"Scotch on the Rocks"	23 February 1992	Lovejoy acquires an ancient Scottish sword, which soon becomes a target for a number of attempted thefts. "Smoke Your Nose"	8 March 1992	The Reverend Nettles tells Lovejoy of an ancient Roman mosaic in the field next to his church. The only problem is that the land is due to be developed. "Kids"	15 March 1992	Lovejoy investigates some fraudulent art which is being produced and sold by a cabinet minister's son. "Members Only"	22 March 1992	Lovejoy is enlisted by a golf club where Lady Jane is a member, but quickly falls foul of the club captain. "Highland Fling" (part one)	29 March 1992	Lovejoy and Lady Jane travel north to Scotland to pay a visit to an old acquaintance of hers. Lovejoy tags along to give a valuation on a family heirloom, a piece of furniture. He has to disappoint them, however, by revealing it has been substituted for a plausible but worthless copy. "Highland Fling" (part two)	29 March 1992	The recently discovered fresco-laden pig-sty and the grounds of the castle have been sold, and Lovejoy must help get them back to help the castle owners avoid foreclosure. "The Napoleonic Commode"	10 January 1993	Lovejoy acquires an antique commode and tries to produce documents showing that it once belonged to Napoleon I, Emperor of France.
"The Ring"	17 January 1993	Lovejoy becomes involved in organising an illegal ring to try to bump up the price of some of his stock. When Lady Jane finds out she becomes furious.
"Second Fiddle"	24 January 1993	Lovejoy is puzzled when he is ordered to make a real Stradivarius violin look like a fake.
"The Colour of Mary"	31 January 1993	Charlie Gimbert is back in town and managing a top snooker player. He hires Lovejoy to acquire an antique billiards table which allegedly had belonged to Mary, Queen of Scots, an avid fan of billiards, who had brought the table back from France in 1561.
"Fly the Flag"	7 February 1993	Lovejoy becomes involved in an ownership dispute over a historic British battle flag, carried at the Battle of Lexington, between an old British military family and an American officer. In the process, however, he happens across some classic toy soldiers which might be worth even more.
"The Judgement of Solomon"	16 February 1993	Lovejoy is called in to help sell some gold valuables. Suspicious, Lovejoy investigates and soon discovers the goods were actually looted in Berlin during the Second World War. Charlie Gimbert steps in to try to make a profit for himself.
"The Galloping Major"	23 February 1993	Lovejoy is offered an antique iron cannon that turns out to be a ton of trouble. A local arms expert tries to steal the cannon, after which it is discovered to be much more valuable than originally thought.
"God Helps Those"	1 March 1993	A series of ram raids results in a table of Lovejoy's, which he lent to another dealer, being destroyed.
"They Call Me Midas"	8 March 1993	Lovejoy's mentor arrives back on the scene asks Lovejoy to help con an unscrupulous arts dealer
"Irish Stew"	15 March 1993	Lovejoy and his associates travel to the Republic of Ireland to try to pick up some cheap bargains. While there he becomes involved in keeping an historic book out of the hands of a shady businessman.
"Dainty Dish"	22 March 1993	Lovejoy, Tinker and Eric are in Brighton, helping a friend of Lady Jane's, the Baroness. After valuable antique dinnerware is discovered, and Charlie Gimbert gets involved (and has the last laugh), the mood turns from holiday to wild plate chase.
"Taking the Pledge"	29 March 1993	Lovejoy helps an old acquaintance recover a valuable painting from an unscrupulous pawnbroker, while also attempting to keep word of the picture away from his ex-wife.
"Lovejoy Loses it"	5 April 1993	Lovejoy is a hit on TV and becomes arrogant and shuns his friends, but his fame makes him think he's losing his gift as a "divvie".

"A Going Concern"	19 September 1993	Lovejoy looks after Felsham Hall, which is up for sale, and decides to sell some antiques using the Hall as a showroom, upsetting the auctioneer in the process.
"The Kakiemon Tiger"	26 September 1993	One of Lovejoy's former debts winds up in the hands of a slimy local loan shark, who gives him only a few days to pay, or else. The only hope of repayment lies in a silver tankard, and hijacking a local auction (run by Charlotte Cavendish) to obtain an antique piece of Japanese pottery.
"Three Men and a Brittle Lady"	3 October 1993	A forger has conned Charlie and Lovejoy agrees to help find him.
"Ducking and Diving"	10 October 1993	Tinker and Eric visit Eric's Uncle Jack's pub, Eric decides to stay. Lovejoy agrees to show a couple around the antiques shops but also has a Welsh dresser to sell.
"Stones of Destiny"	17 October 1993	A Celtic cross is stolen from Charlotte's auction house after Lovejoy persuades the porter to let a friend in for a quick look. The pair end up in Wales trying to retrieve the cross.
"Poetic Licence"	24 October 1993	Charlotte is asked by a friend, who runs a nursing home, to sell some antiques. Someone tries to kill Lovejoy.
"The Peking Gun"	31 October 1993	Lovejoy agrees to handle the sale of a Chinese Ming cannon, for an middle aged widow. His attempts to sell the piece soon prompt the interest of warring the Tong, Chinese secret society factions who place their own special significance on the ancient weapon.
"Goose Bumps"	7 November 1993	Lovejoy is asked to help a local widow, whose husband – a fellow antiques dealer – has gone missing at sea, by selling two ceramic geese left in a storage locker. Meanwhile, Charlie Gimbert gets friendly with the local lawmakers, the dead antique dealer may not really be dead, and things get really friendly between Lovejoy and Charlotte.
"Swings and Roundabouts"	14 November 1993	Lovejoy heads to the fair and helps a carnival worker sell his collection of prized candlesticks, and also does his best to help clear the worker's name after he is framed for stealing valuables form local houses.
"Never Judge a Book by its Cover"	21 November 1993	Lovejoy comes across an old bible at two old ladies house but their brother refuses to sell. Beth's father isn't happy about Beth working for Lovejoy.
"The Price of Fish"	28 November 1993	Lovejoy is invited to a weekend away with Charlotte. Charlie tries to evict Lovejoy.
"The Lost Colony"	27 December 1993	During a house sale Lovejoy meets an American lady, whose name also proves to be Lovejoy. When she comes under suspicion of stealing some items which once belonged to Sir Walter Raleigh, he pursues her to North Carolina to get them back only to find she is a member of one of the wealthiest families in the state.

Series 6

"Fair Exchange"	2 October 1994	Charlotte buys a painting from an aristocratic Polish couple and is then burgled, while Lovejoy is being seduced elsewhere. He drinks too much and wakes up to being found in possession of the stolen painting and is charged with assaulting Charlotte, but he has no memory of the previous night's events.
"Day of Reckoning"	9 October 1994	Lovejoy and Charlotte's relationship has its share of bumps. An old enemy returns from prison for revenge by kidnapping and threatening to kill Charlotte, leading Lovejoy, Tinker and Beth on a wild goose chase to uncover Charlotte's whereabouts before time runs out.
"Somewhere: Over the Rainbow?"	16 October 1994	Tinker disappears and Lovejoy sets out to find him.
"Double Edged Sword"	23 October 1994	A gangster asks Lovejoy in no uncertain terms to find a samurai sword.
"Guns and Roses"	30 October 1994	Lovejoy takes an old gun for repair but finds the gunsmith is having landlord troubles.
"The Last of the Uzkoks"	6 November 1994	Lovejoy is engaged to value a communion set, once owned by the Uzkoks. Charlie seems to have done a moonlight flit.
"Breaking the Broker"	13 November 1994	The police set up Tinker so they can get Lovejoy to help them.
"Fruit of the Desert"	20 November 1994	Lovejoy is conned by a phoney ex-diplomat
"Holding the Baby"	27 November 1994	Charlotte minds her friend's baby and gets locked in an antique shop. Lovejoy has a valuable antique stolen and he's also pestered by the VAT man.
"Last Tango in Lavenham"	4 December 1994	Tinker inherits a pub near his sister, Olive's, hotel. Beth is offered a job elsewhere, Charlotte is offered a job in New York, Lovejoy stops a local group of archaeological site raiders and finally proposes to Charlotte. Unfortunately, weak knees are Lovejoy's least concern on the day of the wedding. Lady Jane and Eric return for the wedding.
