History

The transportation wing operates a large number of bus lines in the Latur municipal area. These buses are called LMT or L.M.T. bus. LMT bus serves the entire Latur City. It also has operation outside city limits into neighboring Harangul, Babhalgaon, Latur Railway Station and Mamadapur.

Latur is one of the large cities of the state of Maharashtra and a center of Trade, Education and Commerce. The city is growing rapidly with need for increasing mobility, high travel demand, increasing intensity of traffic, congestion, delays, accidents and other transportation problems.

The intra-city public transport system is essentially road based with 18 private minibuses, 55 tempos (to reduce pollution now replaced by Maruti van as contract carrier), more than 100 Metro Taxi (Flat fare Rs.14 per KM) and 10,000 auto rickshaws. The city felt a lack of public mass transport system for a long time.

Company

Latur Municipal Transport was incorporated on January, 2009 with an objective to operate and manage the public transport system of Latur. Seven key people were identified as the Board of Directors. Latur Municipal Corporation invested an authorized capital of Rs 2,500,000 jointly. Mr. Vilasrao Deshmukh and the collector of Latur, Eknath Dawale were responsible for the project to run the bus service. The company is run as a public-private partnership.

Origins

Latur Municipal Corporation started its own transport service in February 2009, known as LMT ~ Latur Municipal Transport. LMT is the major bus service provider in Latur. LMT has all its bus depots in Latur and numerous bus stops. The Biggest depot being at Ganj Golai. LMT plys its buses inside Latur city and also towards Patil Plaza.
