Laura Wasser

Laura Allison Wasser (born May 23, 1968) is an American attorney specializing in divorce.[1] Her clients have included Ryan Reynolds, Heidi Klum, Ashton Kutcher, Christina Aguilera, and Marta Kauffman,[2] as well as many pro bono clients from the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law.[3]

Early life

She was born in Los Angeles. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School and spent one year abroad in high school attending The American School in Switzerland. She attended University of California, Berkeley and earned a law degree from Loyola Law School.[4] She has two young sons and resides in Malibu, CA.

Awards

Laura Wasser has been named one of The Hollywood Reporter's 100 Power Lawyers three times.[5][6] She has also been named one of the California Daily Journal's Top 100 Lawyers [7] and Southern California’s Top 50 Women Attorneys every year for the last five years (2012-2016),.[8][9] In June 2008, Wasser received the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law Zephyr M. Ramsey Award. In 2011, she was the recipient of the Century City Chamber of Commerce Women of Achievement.[10] She was listed as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in 2012 and 2013 by the Los Angeles Magazine Super Lawyers. Wasser received the Brady Center Advocate Award.[11]

On May 19, 2011, the Boston Herald reported that Wasser was retained by Maria Shriver after her separation from Arnold Schwarzenegger due to his admitted affair with a former housekeeper, who later gave birth to his child.[17] On October 31, 2011, she filed a divorce petition on behalf of Kim Kardashian, seeking to dissolve Kim's two-month marriage to Kris Humphries.[18] On December 16, 2011, TMZ.com indicated that Wasser filed divorce paperwork for Vanessa Bryant, wife of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant.[19] In August 2015, Megan Fox has hired celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her in her divorce from Brian Austin Green and she cites 'irreconcilable differences' as the reason for the petition.[20]

In 2010, Wasser was featured in Elle,[29] Vogue and Flair magazines.[30] She has been profiled in numerous publications including The New York Times, Nloomber, and LA Business Week in March 2016. She also served as an on-set legal consultant for the movie, Liar Liar and has consulted and worked with writers on numerous and cable television shows. Her book It Doesn't Have to Be That Way: How to Divorce Without Destroying Your Family or Bankrupting Yourself was be published in 2013 and is in its second printing one year later. In conjunction with the launch of her book, Wasser appeared on The Today Show, The View, The Talk, Katie and various national news and radio stations. Internationally, Ms Wasser has been featured in German Vogue Business, Le Figaro, Madame, Cover Magazine, Italian Flair, El Mundo, New Idea Magazine and The Telegraph.

Programs & Speaking Engagements

Ms. Wasser participates in many continuing education programs as a lecturer and panelist. She has been a guest lecturer at Loyola Law School, Southwestern Law School, UCLA, and UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law.
