Occupation Commentator, activist, political candidate, writer, media personality

Lauren Southern is a Canadian libertarian commentator, activist, political candidate, writer and media personality.[1][2][3]

In 2015, the Libertarian Party of Canada suspended Southern as a candidate, with leader Tim Moen claiming she had “broken message discipline”. Mark Burnison, then Vice President for Political Action, allegedly told Southern that in order to remain a candidate, she would have to end her association with The Rebel Media, apologise, and “avoid anti-feminist speech” in the future. [4] After public outcry and internal backlash from libertarians upset someone would be removed for engaging in free speech, Southern was later reinstated as a candidate.[5]

Southern is a contributor for the Canadian online media platform The Rebel Media.

Controversy

In March 2016, in Vancouver, Canada, Southern was assaulted by having a container of urine poured over her head in public while speaking with some protesters. The incident happened after Southern had stated there were only two genders.[6][7][8]
