Laurence A. Tosi (born 1968) is the Chief Financial Officer of Airbnb. Prior to joining Airbnb, he was the CFO of The Blackstone Group.
Before joining Blackstone, Mr. Tosi held a number of senior positions at Merrill Lynch & Co. including chief operating officer of Merrill's trading and investment banking division. Before Merrill, he worked at General Electric Co.'s CNBC and NBC divisions as a director of business development.[1] He joined Blackstone as CFO in June 2008 at just 40 years of age.[1]
Early life and education
Tosi put himself through school to get his Bachelor's degree in 1990, and law and business school in 1994 at Georgetown University, which he called a financial "struggle."[2] Tosi and his wife have become major donors to the school and to the 1789 scholarship fund.
Business career
In January 2011, Tosi was offered the job of CFO at Apple by Steve Jobs, but turned it down. Apple had a large amount of cash reserves, and felt that Tosi would have brought acquisition experience.[3] Before joining Airbnb, Tosi was on the short list of Blackstone senior executives being groomed to take over the role of Chief Executive when Stephen Schwarzman retires.[4]
