Learning and Skills Improvement Service

The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee and registered charity formed to support and improve achievement in the Further Education and Skills sector in England. [1]

The LSIS has a governing Council and a management board, both chaired by Dame Ruth Silver DBE, formerly principal of Lewisham College. Its Chief Executive is Rob Wye.

In July 2012, the LSIS launched a new scheme to support trainee teachers, the Initial Teacher Training (ITT) Fee Awards. [2]

LSIS has today (Monday 10 December 2012) confirmed that it has no alternative but to begin a managed exit from its delivery of improvement services for the further education and skills sector.

LSIS to close by 31 July 2013

This decision is in light of the announcement that funding of LSIS by BIS will cease by 1 August 2013.

LSIS will cease delivering courses, training conferences and other support, including the provision of grants direct to providers, on a phased basis between March and August 2013.

Details of when programmes and services will end are now being discussed with BIS and with partners.
