Léo Joseph Paul Westermann (born July 24, 1992) is a French professional basketball player who currently plays for Limoges CSP of the French League, on loan from Barcelona. He is a 1.97 m (6 ft 5 1⁄2 in) tall point guard.
Professional career
Early years
Westermann started his professional career in 2008, playing for Centre Fédéral de Basketball at the Nationale Masculine 1, the third division of French basketball. He played for Centre Fed for two seasons, averaging 10.1 points, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game in 48 games.
ASVEL
He signed with ASVEL Basket in 2010.[1] He stayed there for two seasons, playing in the French Pro A and Eurocup. In 2012, Westermann was selected to play for the World Team at the Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon.[2] He left the team just few hours before he signed a contract with different team.[3]
Partizan Belgrade
On July 2, 2012, it was reported that Westermann signed a three-year contract with Partizan Belgrade.[4] He was one of the candidates for the prestigious award Euroleague Rising Star, which eventually went to Kostas Papanikolaou.[5] In his first season, he averaged 9.6 points, 2.6 rebounds and 4.1 assists in the Euroleague. In the ABA League, Westermann helped his team to win the title, averaging 6.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 28 games. In November's away game against CSKA Moscow, he tore ACL on his knee which sidelined him for the remainder of the season.[6][7] As the result of the injury, Partizan had to find replacement for him in Milenko Tepić, former member of the team.[8]
Barcelona
On July 17, 2014, Barcelona acquired rights of Westerman.[9] On July 25, 2014, he was loaned to the French Euroleague team Limoges CSP for one season.[10] Over 10 Euroleague games, he averaged 7.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, career-high 4.3 assists and 1.3 steal per game. On July 11, 2015, Westermann signed a one-year extension with the option of another year with Limoges.[11]
