Leonardo Santillana

Leonardo Santillana (born 1998) is a Mexican equestrian.

Santillana grew up in Guadalajara, Jalisco in Mexico. He started riding at the age of 11. His coach was Maribel Calderón, a rider herself that gave classes in a small club in the outsides of the city. Leonardo spent three years riding by the lessons of Maribel with a variety of horses but non of his own. In his fourth year he got his first horse, a sorrel foal inexperienced in the jumping shows but after six months they entered to their first competition. Santillana entered in the 0.75 meter high category. After three months of competitions he stopped riding for personal reasons.

After two years, he decided to go back to the sport and got a new horse; Grand Kino. Another foal but this one was a dappled foal but with some experience in the horse-jumping competitions since the horse had participated in competitions before. Santillana started competing with Grand Kino couple of months after they got him. He entered at the 0.90 m category. He then started winning several competitions and appeared in local news (Informador Redacción). Santillana ended his season as regional champion and then ended up as the third best rider in Mexico in the 0.90 m category in which he competed representing his state, (Jalisco) in November 2013. He is now in the 1.00 meter category in mid season.
