Liam Bradley Renton is an Australian radio personality. He was a newsreader on the kids TV show the Big Breakfast in the 1990s and currently hosts the breakfast show on 96Five in Brisbane.[1] He also hosts the weekly countdown show Australia’s Hot 25 countdown heard on more than 500 Christian Stations throughout Australia.[2]

Early life

Liam was born in Mundubbera QLD and has a life saving operation at 3 weeks of age when he was unable to digest food . His father was a Police officer for over 40 years and his Mother runs doctors surgery. He attended Palmwoods State School from 1982-1988, and was house captain. He then went to the private school Immanuel Lutheran College[3] from 89-93 and was a Prefect of the School. Liam was a member of scouts and sang in numerous show choirs in his youth. He studied both business and journalism at SCIT and QUT in Brisbane.

Career

Radio

Liams first started in radio on Rhema FM Sunshine Coast as one of their inaugural announcers. He joined Sun FM and was paired up with radio legend Graham Webb as his on air sidekick playing the Hits of the 40’s and 50’s Liam then joined B105 as a Black thunder Pilot. From there joining Jamie Dunn and the b105 morning crew as their Traffic guy, until he moved to Mid Dawns 96five in Brisbane was where Liam went next as their first ever full-time night announcer.[4] Star FM was then Liam’s on air home for many years as the breakfast host in Griffith, Dubbo and Albury.[5] Back again at 96five Liam has anchored their breakfast show since 2006.[6]

TV

Renton was a reporter on Jam TV, and early morning kids show that played on Channel 7 Sunday mornings.[7] He did stories on how to make a guitar, cricket bat[8] and dance like a supertstar. Renton joined the big time when selected to be a part of the kids TV show The Big Arvo as the show's only newsreader. The show was edgy in its slot playing film clips, skating and surfing clips and cartoons. It bombed in the ratings and was eventually beaten by The Teletubbies. Renton has also hosted the local community affairs show 360 on Bris 31 Digital for 3 years.[9]
