Symere Woods (born July 31, 1994), better known by his stage name Lil Uzi Vert, is an American rapper, singer and songwriter from Francisville, North Philadelphia, Pennsylvannia. He gained major recognition by releasing the mixtape Luv is Rage in 2015. Uzi signed a record deal with Generation Now and Atlantic Records.

Career

2015–present: Career beginnings and rise to fame

Lil Uzi Vert got his name from a friend who said he rapped "like a little uzi". Uzi's rapping skills were first noticed my DJ Diamond Kuts, DJ Drama and Don Cannon. He stood out on DJ Carnage's single "WDYW" in 2015. That same year, Uzi signed a record deal with DJ Drama and Don Cannon's company Generation Now and Atlantic Records.[1] Uzi then released his third mixtape Luv Is Rage was released on December 18, 2015, featuring productions from Don Cannon, FKi, Sonny Digital, TM88, and more, with Wiz Khalifa and Young Thug the only guest features on the album. On April 15, 2016, Uzi released his fourth mixtape titled Lil Uzi Vert Vs. The World featuring productions from Don Cannon, Metro Boomin and Wondagurl with a cover art by Fvrris.

Influences

In an interview with Complex, Lil Uzi Vert stated his influences are ASAP Rocky, Marilyn Manson, Pharrell, Kanye West, Wiz Khalifa and Ying Yang Twins.[1]
