Lilavati's Daughters

Lilavati's Daughters is a collection of biographical essays on Women Scientists of India. It was published in the form of a book by Indian Academy of Sciences (Bangalore) in 2008.[1] The book was jointly edited by Rohini Godbole and Ram Ramaswamy.[2]

Each essay depicts the experiences and backgrounds of these women which helped them choose and sustain a career in science.

Lilavati was a treatise written by twelfth-century Indian mathematician Bhāskara II. It deals with arithmetics, algebra, geometry etc. through poetic conversations with his daughter Lilavati.

Janaki Ammal, Chemist Asima Chatterjee, physician Anandibai Joshi, anthropologist Iravati Karve, biochemist Kamala Sohonie, medical researcher Kamal Ranadive, chemist Darshan Ranganathan, physicist B. Vijayalakshmi, meteorologist Anna Mani, fluid mechanist Rama Govindarajan and many others.
