Life and career
Originally from Xian, China, Linda immigrated to the United States in 1951. Her career in broadcasting began when she was a writer and producer for KTLA-TV in Los Angeles, and then as a writer for ABC O & O KABC-TV also in Los Angeles. Ms. Yu graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism in 1968. Linda first joined the station in April 1984 after five years with rival NBC O & O WMAQ-TV. Yu has anchored the 4pm newscast for 30 years, most of it with veteran news anchor Joel Daly, and also did the 11am newscast for 21 years with Sylvia Perez. The two were the first women in the Chicago market to co-anchor a newscast. Before coming to Chicago, Linda worked as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor for ABC O & O KGO-TV from 1975-1979. Before that, she was a reporter for KATU-TV in Portland, Oregon. In January 2014, Yu broke her leg in a motor vehicle accident.[1]
