List of American universities with Olympic medals

The following list shows the number of Olympic medals won by alumni or students of American universities - not necessarily representing the U.S. - in Olympic Games up through 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The list starts with universities with most Olympic medals, continuing in descending order. Only those who actually received Olympic medals are counted - thus the list includes Olympic athletes only, excluding coaches, staff managers and so on.[1][2] A university with remarks "I" means the count might be incomplete due to the lack of reliable sources.

In 2012 London Summer Olympics, the university with most Olympic medals in the U.S. is University of Southern California (25 medals), followed by UC Berkeley (17 medals) and University of Florida (17 medals).[3] Stanford University (16 medals) and UT Austin (13 medals) placed 4th and 5th, respectively.[3]

Rank University Gold Silver Bronze Total Remarks
1 University of Southern California[4] 135 88 65 288
2 Stanford University[5] 280 Stanford does not show the breakdown of its total medals. And its website updated the total count from 242 to 280

on 02/25/2016, soon after the release of this list. The Stanford count should thus be viewed with caution.
