List of British weapon L numbers

This is a listing of British Army Weapons identified by their L number ("L" standing for Land Service). The L number alone is not a unique identifier, for instance there is an L11 automatic pistol, machine gun and tank gun. Rather, it is used in conjunction with a weapon description e.g. "Rifle, 7.62mm, L1A1". Use of L numbers starts in the 1950s and an equivalent system for military vehicles is the FV series (fighting vehicle).

Royal Navy weapons systems are designated by "N" ("N" standing for Naval Service). Canada uses "C" ("C" standing for Canadian) while Australia uses "F" ("F" standing for Forces).
