List of Nashville Sounds seasons
The Nashville Sounds minor league baseball team has played 38 seasons since its establishment in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1978. As of the completion of the 2015 season, the club has played in 5,445 regular season games and compiled a win–loss record of 2,794–2,651 (.513).[1] They have a postseason record of 40–38 (.513).[2]
The Sounds were established as an expansion team of the Double-A Southern League (SL) in 1978.[3] They moved to the Triple-A American Association (AA) in 1985 and to the Triple-A Pacific Coast League (PCL) in 1998.[3] The team won the Southern League Championship in 1979 as the Double-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds and again in 1982 as the Double-A club of the New York Yankees. The Sounds won the Pacific Coast League Championship in 2005 as the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers.[4]
Nashville's seven years spent playing in the Southern League resulted with the club figuring in the postseason picture during six of those seven seasons.[2] They won three Western Division titles and two Southern League Championships.[5] The Sounds' 13 years with the American Association at the Triple-A level was a vast contrast. The Sounds only managed three trips to the postseason, including two by virtue of winning the Eastern Division title.[2] The team did not perform well during their first few years with the Pacific Coast League, but went on to win four division titles, two American Conference titles, and one Pacific Coast League Championship between 2003 and 2007.[6] The Sounds have not qualified for postseason play since 2007.
The team's best season record occurred in 1980, when they finished 97–46 (.678). Their lowest season record was 57–87 (.396) in 2013. Of the seven major league affiliations in Nashville's history, the team recorded its best record from 1980 to 1984 as the Double-A farm club for the New York Yankees. The team had a regular season record of 417–306 (.577). They reached the postseason in all five seasons, winning two Western Division titles and one Southern League Championship. Their postseason record was 14–14 (.500). Conversely, the team's lowest record has been as the Oakland Athletics' Triple-A club since 2015. The Sounds compiled a 66–78 (.458) record and failed to reach the postseason in their first year as the A's top affiliate.
