List of Please Like Me episodes

Please Like Me is an Australian television drama-comedy series created and written by Josh Thomas. It premiered on ABC2 on 28 February 2013. The show focuses on Josh (Josh Thomas) and his dysfunctional family and friends. The titles of each episode refer to either a food or drink.

On 12 July 2014, Please Like Me was renewed for a third season of ten episodes.[1]

Josh (Josh Thomas), a twenty-year-old student living in Melbourne, Australia, is dumped by his girlfriend Claire (Caitlin Stasey) because he is gay, although he hasn't realized it until now. That night Josh's housemate and best friend Tom (Thomas Ward) has his attractive gay co-worker Geoffrey (Wade Briggs) over for dinner and he asks Josh if he can stay over, which leads to an awkward sexual encounter. The next morning, Josh awakens to learn that his mother Rose (Debra Lawrence) has attempted suicide and been taken to hospital. Rose's ex-husband and Josh's father Alan (David Roberts) worries that the attempt was because of him and his Thai girlfriend Mae (Renee Lim), whom Rose doesn't know about. The hospital psychiatrist advises the two of them that Rose cannot be left alone and Josh resolves to move back in with his mum.

Rose has her first appointment with a new psychiatrist, who believes she is likely to make another suicide attempt and cannot be left alone, which ruins Josh's plans to have dinner with Geoffrey. Josh invites Peg (Judi Farr), Rose's crotchety old aunt, to keep her company so that he can go out. Tom swears to finally break up with his overbearing girlfriend Niamh (Nikita Leigh-Pritchard), but she turns the tables on him before he has a chance and winds up promising to treat her better. Claire stops over (thinking she could hang out with Tom post-breakup) and watches Puella Magi Madoka Magica (which she mistakenly calls "Japanese manga") on TV with Niamh and Tom. Josh worries about having sex with Geoffrey for the first time, but his fears are temporarily allayed by a panicked phone call from Alan, who cannot get Rose on the phone and has Josh and Geoffrey check up on her. Josh finds both Rose and Peg sleeping peacefully and returns to his evening with Geoffrey.

Josh reads a eulogy that Peg has written herself in place of Rose.

Josh, Tom and Patrick go to a club. They talk about how Josh looks sad and can't get dates, unlike Patrick, who is cool. Patrick and Tom hook up with people from the club. Rose gets her hair dyed orange. Josh meets Alan and Mae for lunch and meets his baby sister, Grace. Alan talks to Josh about Josh's uni and decides that Josh needs more responsibility in his life and declares that Josh will babysit Grace. Josh, Tom and Patrick discuss how weird it is that they could technically have a baby, but Tom thinks she looks cute and says that he wants to be a dad. Niamh comes to help babysit and begins cooing over Grace. When Niamh leaves the room, Josh tells Tom that she loves him and that he shouldn't continue to have sex with her. Tom counters that he's not responsible for her decisions. Mae convinces Alan to order a bottle of champagne on their date. Niamh shows Tom a cubby house that she built for them - Tom awkwardly goes inside and they begin making out - Tom stops a couple of times, but eventually says that they should go onto the bed instead. Patrick invites a guy over. Tom and Niamh and Patrick and the guy have sex, and Josh realises that Grace needs her nappy changed. He googles 'is it okay to take a baby into the shower' and then carefully showers with Grace. Mae and Alan come to pick up Grace and ask if Josh is having a party. Rose comes by as well with a makeover and a new puppy. Rose announces that she has quit her medication.

Josh helps transfer Rose from the ICU at the private hospital to the mental health unit, and returns home to help prepare for Patrick's birthday party, including baking a ham. One of the guests arrives early and awkwardly offers to wait in his car, introducing himself as Arnold, Steve's brother. Rose rattles around the mental health unit, not fitting in. As the party gets into full swing, Tom and Josh talk in a corner, and Tom says that he thinks his penis is big. Patrick comes over and they continue discussing penis size while a girl, Jenny, comes over. She isn't put off by the conversation. Rose eats dinner in her room. Tom attempts to flirt with Jenny, and Josh and Arnold watch them from a distance and mock Tom. Rose hears a noise and finds a patient trying to kill herself, so she sounds the alarm and in the confusion, slips out of the hospital.

When a used tampon causes a pipe blockage in Josh's home they are issued an expensive repair bill. Josh accuses Jenny of being the culprit but Tom later admits to flushing the sanitary item out of curiosity. Claire returns and moves into the house. Josh and Alan are chased out of a shopping mall after Josh is caught writing graffiti in the public toilets and Alan tells Josh he cannot support him any longer. Ginger over hears Rose gossiping about her to Hannah which causes tension between the pair. Josh, Claire, Patrick and Tom go to see Jenny's dance show and drink in the audience. They are unimpressed with her performance but notice a sanitary towel showing over her underwear. Claire gets drunk and insults Jenny which causes an argument with Tom. Josh and Patrick bond and kiss.

Patrick tells Josh that he does not want a relationship because he cannot imagine having sex with him. Jenny's rabbit dies and forces Tom to hold a funeral. She becomes both upset, angry and then rapes[16] Tom before throwing him out of her home. Josh takes Rose, Hannah and Arnold to the zoo but Ginger refuses to accompany them. Alan tells a delighted Mae that he will reduce his work hours to spend more time at home. But he tells Josh that this will mean he can no longer support him. At the end of the day the group discover that Ginger has committed suicide.

Josh and Rose go on a camping trip together in Tasmania in the wake of Ginger's suicide, despite their relationship having some difficulties. Rose reveals that Ginger left her a suicide note. Rose and Josh discuss Rose's previous suicide attempts and mental health in general. Rose and a reluctant Josh smoke marijuana which causes them to bond. Josh tells Rose how her behaviour made him feel and she reassures him that it was not intentional. Rose and Josh speak at length about Patrick. Rose reads Ginger's note which proves both humorous and insulting and they return home.

After Patrick leaves the share house, Josh makes truffled mac and cheese. Stoned one night, Tom eats the remains, not realising the monetary and emotional value the dish has to Josh. The next morning, Tom finds himself blocked into his room by an irate Josh, who has also turned off the internet and removed his phone. Meanwhile, Josh's Dad wants to know when Josh is getting a job, and asks him to write a resume, a task he enlists Tom to assist him with. Arnold informs Josh that his therapist wants to meet him, and Josh's Dad informs him that he has bought a coffee cart which he intends Josh to take responsibility for. After an emotional heart-to-heart, Tom and Claire reveal that Tom has been able to leave his room through the window the entire time he has been blockaded in.

Josh wrestles with understanding his relationship with Arnold, whose anxiety proves to be an obstacle. After a series of dates, Josh and Arnold have sex for the first time, but the relationship proves tentative still. Arnold drunkenly tells Josh he loves him for the first time, but when Josh tells him he loves him the next day, Arnold doesn't reciprocate. Arnold makes a grand Love Actually inspired romantic gesture where he apologises to Josh and says that he loves him.

Rose takes Hannah out to do something fun, and they go to a lesbian bar.

Claire becomes upset that Grace, who they are babysitting, might also catch worms, and so she, and eventually Arnold, are let in on the secret.
