Film

This is a list of Spider-Man enemies that have been in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man film trilogy. The films also introduce Dylan Baker as Dr. Curt Connors, the man who in the comics becomes the Lizard, but this entity and transformation never took place during Raimi's tenure as director. Spider-Man 2 also features Daniel Gillies as John Jameson, whose similar transformation into the Man-Wolf is not depicted in the film. Additionally, the Kingpin was featured prominently in the 2003 Mark Steven Johnson film Daredevil, where he was portrayed by Michael Clarke Duncan. Mendel Stromm was also portrayed by actor Ron Perkins in the 2002 Spider-Man film, although he did not become a villain. In Marc Webb's reboot of Spider-Man, the Lizard is the villain. Irrfan Khan also portrays the antagonistic Dr. Ratha in The Amazing Spider-Man.

Abilities Virtually unlimited resources
Exceptional intellect

For decades, the wealthy and misanthropic Gustav Fiers controlled a criminal organisation. Fiers had a lethal reputation in the criminal underworld, known for conducting elaborate plans to increase his own wealth, involved behind the scenes in various significant events in global history. Gustav Fiers eventually learned that Richard and Mary Parker, two agents under his employ, were double agents working for the United States government. When the Parkers were hired by Albert Malik, Fiers informed Malik of their disloyalty.[8] Malik hired Gustav Fiers' brother, the Finisher, to kill the Parkers. The Finisher succeeded in doing so but, decades later, was killed in a battle with the Parkers' son, Spider-Man.[9]

When Gustav Fiers heard of the Finisher's death, he began creating an elaborate scheme to exact revenge on Spider-Man for killing his brother. As part of the revenge plot, Fiers (now calling himself "the Gentleman") created a new Sinister Six composed of Doctor Octopus, Electro, Mysterio (Quentin Beck), the Vulture (Adrian Toomes), the Chameleon and his brainwashed bodyguard, Pity.[10] The Gentleman attempted to convince Spider-Man that Pity was his long lost sister but Spider-Man refused to believe it and eventually learned that Pity was the daughter of one of Fiers' other deceased enemies. Spider-Man was able to defeat the Sinister Six, and the Gentleman was betrayed and killed by Doctor Octopus and the Chameleon, who did not appreciate his dishonesty.[8]

Appearances in other media

The Gentleman plays a role in the The Amazing Spider-Man film series, portrayed by Michael Massee. The Gentleman first appears in the mid-credits scene of The Amazing Spider-Man. He visits Dr. Curt Connors in his cell at Beloit Psychiatric Hospital, asking him if he told Peter Parker the truth about his father, implying that he knows something about the father's suspicious death. After Connors denies that he did, the Gentleman leaves the room suddenly by mysteriously vanishing.

The Gentleman returns in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Following the film's climax, he visits Harry Osborn, who is incarcerated in the Ravencroft Institute for his crimes as the Green Goblin. The Gentleman speaks with Osborn about a group he is forming. Osborn informs the Gentleman that all he needs to form the team is located at the "special projects" room at Oscorp Tower.
