The national cricket teams of Australia and India have been competing against each other in Tests since their first meeting in 1947. The sides have met on 90 occasions with Australia holding the greater record with 40 wins to India's 24.[2] Two of the most famous Test matches in history occurred between the two sides. Firstly, in 1986 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, the second ever Tied Test was played when India were bowled out for 347 chasing 348 to win in their second innings.[3] Then in 2001 at Eden Gardens, India became the third team to win after being forced to follow-on. After conceding a first innings lead of 274, India scored 657/7 & declared their second innings, helped in part by a 376 run partnership by V. V. S. Laxman and Rahul Dravid. Australia were bowled out for 212 chasing a target of 384 with Indian bowler Harbhajan Singh finishing with match figures of 13/196.[4]
