The second season, consisting of 14 new episodes, was aired in chronological order in between re-airings of the first season's episodes, with all 28 episodes aired between April 3[1] and October 9, 2009. The series was released in North America by Bandai Entertainment, and was relicensed by Funimation.[2]

Episode list

Season 1

In the original 2006 broadcast of the first season, which aired in Japan between April 2 and July 2, 2006, the episodes were aired in a nonlinear order, with the six episodes making up the first novel's storyline intermixed with episodes based on chapters from various points in the light novels. In the next episode previews, two different numbers for the following episode are given: one number from Haruhi, who numbers the episodes according to where they actually fit chronologically in the plot, and one number from Kyon, who numbers the episodes in the order in which they aired. The sole exception is episode twelve, which is both the twelfth episode aired and the twelfth episode chronologically, a fact Kyon mentions in the preview.[4] For the DVD releases, "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina Episode 00" is used as the first episode, but otherwise the episodes follow the chronological order.[5] In the 2009 re-airing, the series was aired in full chronological order, with episodes from the second season mixed in with the first season's episodes based on their chronology. In this airing, the first season's episodes were taken from the DVD editions, featuring visual edits and dialogue changes not featured in the original broadcast.

Note: B = episode number by broadcast order (nonlinear or "Kyon order"), C = episode number chronologically for just season one ("Haruhi order"), D = Season 1 DVD episode order, E = 2009 broadcast order (chronological for both seasons). They relax at the swimming pool, attend the upcoming summer festival, shoot off fireworks, hunt for bugs, take on a part-time job, stargaze, and play baseball at a batting range. They find out that the loop has repeated 15,498 times with slight variations, but none of them can devise anything to stop the cycle from repeating. Upon their last meeting in a restaurant on last day, Kyon calls out after Haruhi in a last-ditch attempt to stop her from leaving, but fails to think of anything he can do, and she leaves. As the last day of vacation arrives, Kyon, resigned to the loop repeating itself, goes to bed without finishing his summer homework.

Upon the start of a new term, North High School is preparing for the annual school cultural festival. Displeased with the class decision on a questionnaire, Haruhi tells Kyon that the SOS Brigade will do something more interesting. Influenced by a bad film the previous night, Haruhi commits the club for a short independent film with Mikuru and Itsuki as the protagonists, Yuki as the villain, and Kyon doing 'menial tasks' including the filming. Kyon and Mikuru accompany Haruhi as she negotiates with shop owners for free equipment, obtaining an expensive camcorder and an airsoft gun.

"Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki III" (涼宮ハルヒの溜息III)
August 28, 2009May 18, 2011
As the SOS Brigade continue filming, Haruhi, displeased with the battle sequence, conjures the idea Mikuru shooting laser beams from the blue contact lens on her left eye. However, her powers unconsciously cause Mikuru to actually fire deadly beams from her eyes, forcing Yuki to protect Kyon and tackle Mikuru to remove the contact lens. While Haruhi changes Mikuru into a bunny girl outfit, the others discuss the situation. After filming for the remainder of the day, Haruhi leaves insisting on a tight filming schedule until the festival, including working on a Sunday. The next day, Yuki reveals she has used bite-injected nanomachines to counter Haruhi's effects on Mikuru, while Haruhi adds Tsuruya, Taniguchi, and Kunikida to be extras in the film.

"Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki IV" (涼宮ハルヒの溜息IV)
September 4, 2009May 18, 2011
As the SOS Brigade continues filming, Haruhi tries to give Mikuru another contact lens, ergo another superpower, though Yuki quickly takes action and injects her with more nanomachines before any serious damage could be done. After Mikuru is doused in a lake, Tsuruya offers her place as a movie scene, where Haruhi has her sneak some alcohol into Mikuru's drink in order to drug her up for a kiss scene with Itsuki. Furious with Haruhi's shabby treatment of Mikuru, Kyon almost hits her in rage, forcing Itsuki to stop him, leading Haruhi to become depressed, since she always thought Kyon would support her. After becoming irritated by Taniguchi's rude comments about Haruhi and realising he is no better himself, Kyon apologises to Haruhi and reinvigorates her. This proves to be too effective, however, as her powers start causing cherry blossoms to bloom out of season.

"Suzumiya Haruhi no Tameiki V" (涼宮ハルヒの溜息V)
September 11, 2009May 25, 2011
Deciding Yuki needs a familiar for her role, Haruhi picks up a stray male calico cat, naming it Shamisen. However, when Haruhi leaves that day, Shamisen starts talking as a result of Haruhi's powers. The other club members meet up, where Itsuki suggests a reminder to Haruhi that her movie is a work of fiction, before reality incurs further damage. Later on, both Mikuru and Yuki share their independent views about Haruhi. As Haruhi's powers continue through filming, Itsuki calls out Kyon to hold back Haruhi's powers. Kyon accomplishes this by convincing Haruhi to add a disclaimer over the credits saying it is a work of fiction. After the filming, Kyon and Haruhi remain at the club room to do the editing. Kyon falls asleep while editing the movie, but wakes up the next day to find the movie had somehow completed itself while he was sleeping. The episode ends with a flashback to May, where Kyon tries to tell Haruhi the truth about the other club members, but she does not believe him.
