Tokyo Ghoul is an anime television series by Studio Pierrot aired on Tokyo MX between July and September 2014 with a second season titled Tokyo Ghoul √A that aired January 8, 2015 to March 26, 2015. Studio Pierrot also did OVA for Tokyo Ghoul: JACK along with a portion of the light novel Tokyo Ghoul: Hibi titled Tokyo Ghoul: PINTO.

Rize reveals her intentions to eat Kaneki but by a stroke of luck Kaneki survives her attack but is mortally wounded. He is saved by an emergency operation, transferring Rize's organs into himself. This subsequently turns him into a half-ghoul half-human hybrid and Kaneki struggles to survive and cope by himself. | ||

Touka and Hinami confront Mado after being lured into a trap. During the commotion, Kaneki confronts Amon while Touka is focused on getting revenge for Hinami. | ||

After the battle with Mado, Hinami starts living with Touka and Kaneki. Still mourning the loss of his partner, Amon is relocated to the 11th ward, where the police are having trouble facing some dangerous ghouls who do not fear them. | ||

The battle at Cochlea intensifies on several fronts and when Ayato is to be almost killed, he is rescued in the nick of time by Kaneki, who undergoes a bizarre transformation after consuming the bodies of several dead Ghouls to empower himself. | ||

The CCG launches a full scale attack on Anteiku and instead of running away, Yoshimura and his friends decide to make a stand against them, and despite being warned, Touka and Kaneki depart to the 20th ward to assist their friends as well. | ||

Kaneki's friends from Anteiku are being defeated one by one but he arrives in the nick of time to save them. Meanwhile, Juuzou, Shinohara and a few other investigators corner and defeat Yoshimura after a long battle, but suddenly, an even greater threat appears before them. | ||

When the Aogiri Tree joins the battle, the CCG is driven into a corner until their strongest investigator, Kishō Arima appears to assist them. Meanwhile, Kaneki and Amon face off. | ||

After waking up in Anteiku, he hears someone mention that 'making coffee is difficult'. When the person comes out, it is revealed to be Hide. By the time that Kaneki realises that he has his ghoul eye activated, Hide tells him 'I Knew'. Hide and Kaneki drink some coffee which is horrible. Hide tells him that he realized Kaneki was a ghoul when Nishio was beating the crap out of Hide and Kaneki came to his rescue. Hide states that it took all that he had to stay conscious when he collapses. It is revealed that Hide had been wounded whilst trying to take him to Anteiku. As Hide is drifting in and out of consciousness he says to Kaneki 'Lets go home'. Touka is seen running towards Anteiku when she collapses and starts crying when she sees Anteiku burning down. She notices that Kaneki is walking out carrying something in his arms. Touka chases after Kaneki when a large piece of rubble falls down when it is shot down by what looks like a hardened version of her Kagune. Touka continues chasing after Kaneki when she runs into Renji. Renji states that if something were to happen he had one last order from Yoshimura. Touka witnesses Kaneki walking towards the CCG when it was revealed what he was carrying. Kaneki was carrying Hide's unconscious body and comes face-to-face with Arima (CCG's ace). After the credits Touka opens up a new cafè called :re. |

This singular episode is a prequel to the main Tokyo Ghoul series. It shows a little of the human side of CCG in the early stages, and gives a little bit more background on the character of Special Investigator Arima, and how he got started as a young high schooler, along with Fura, one of the Senior Investigators of CCG. None of the original characters are in this episode. |
