List of UK Rock & Metal Singles Chart number ones of 2010

The UK Rock Chart is a chart that ranks the biggest-selling singles that are released through the genre of Rock in the United Kingdom. The chart is compiled by The Official UK Charts Company,[1] and is based on both physical and digital single sales. 17 different singles reached the number-one spot during 2010.

Summary

"Closer to the Edge" by Thirty Seconds to Mars has the record for most weeks spent at the number-one spot during 2010; it remained at the peak for 8 consecutive weeks, running from 11 July to 28 August, also managing to peak at number 44 on the UK Singles Chart. The record was closely contended by American band The Pretty Reckless who remained at the top spot for seven consecutive weeks with "Make Me Wanna Die"

The UK Rock Chart began with the continuation of Rage Against The Machine's chart domination. The single originally reached the top-spot on 20 December 2009 following a Facebook campaign to prevent Joe McElderry from claiming the top-spot. The single remained at number 1 on the Rock Chart for two weeks in 2009 and then 2 weeks in 2010, before being replaced by "Where We Belong" from Welsh-band Lostprophets, who held the title for 4 weeks that ran from 17 January until 14 February.

On 14 February, "Iris" by the Goo Goo Dolls returned to the top-spot once again, originally peaking at number 1 back in May 2009. The single remained at the peak for two weeks before being replaced by UK band Muse. The single returned to the top spot for the third time (second time in 2010) on 21 March, bringing the total number of weeks at the peak to four.

In September, Linkin Park held the number-one spot for three weeks with The Catalyst. From November 13 until December 11, My Chemical Romance were number one with Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na). On December 25, The Darkness took the final number one of the year when Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bells End), returned to the summit.
