Gold mines in the Kalgoorlie - Leonora region
  • ^[1] Some companies work on Calendar year (2008) (mostly non-Australian companies), others on Fiscal year (2008–09).
  • ^[2] Purchased in 2011 from Mercator Gold PLC, the company's mining assets around Meekatharra consist of the Bluebird mine and mill and a number of other satellite pits.[15] Mining resumed in October 2007, but Mercator was forced to go into administration 9 October 2008. Reed Resources plans to reopen the mine by late 2012.[16]
  • ^[3] The Tarmoola mine was part of the Sons of Gwalia acquisition by St Barbara. The mine was closed in September 2004, after a pit wall failure in February 2004.[17]
  • ^[4] Monarch purchased Davyhurst in November 2005 and commenced production in June 2007. Operations were suspended on 14 June 2008 and on 12 July 2008, Monarch went into administration. A deal struck with Stirling Resources Limited in June 2009 could see the mine reopen in 2010. Production figures for July 2007 to March 2008 only.[18]
  • ^[5] The Fortnum mine closed in April 2007, having only reopened in July 2006, when the then-owner Gleneagle Gold Limited went into receivership.[19] It was sold to Eagle Gold Mines Limited on 13 December 2007,[20] which, in turn, went into receivership in 2009, now renamed Grosvenor Gold Pty. Limited. The future of the mine remains uncertain. Approximate figure for the period from July 2006 to April 2007, calculated from gold sales of A$21,000,000 at an average of A$800 per ounce in this time.
  • ^[6] Originally part of APEX's three-mine strategy, whereby ore was to be transported from Gidgee and Youanmi to Wiluna to be treated there. The start up of the mining at this two locations was however been delayed numerous times. APEX purchased Gidgee from Legend Mining Limited in August 2007,[21] the mine having last been operational in March 2005 and since been in care and maintenance,[22] and sold it to Panoramic Resources in February 2011.[23]
  • ^[7] Purchased in April 2008, the mine remains in care and maintenance.[24]
  • ^[8] Harmony placed Hill 50 into care and maintenance in December 2007. After being unable to sell the mine, Harmony conducted a study in regard to carrying out mining at Hill 50 once more. It is currently considering the option of consolidating historic resources into one large super pit, rather than to carry out costly underground mining. Harmony expects the study to be completed in the third quarter of 2010.[25] Production figures are for Harmony's combined Australian operations.
  • ^[9] Placed in care and maintenance.
  • ^[10] The mine was acquired by Lihir Gold Limited through a merger with Equigold NL in June 2008. In August 2008, the mine finished production, was placed in care and maintenance and then sold on to Mount Magnet South NL.[26] Production figures for Lihir Gold ownership period only.
  • ^[11] Purchased in October 2007, ATW has resumed mining at Burnakura on 4 March 2009. Figures are for the period from 4 March to 31 May 2009.[24] In October 2009, the mine was returned to a care and maintenance status because of rising costs and operational difficulties.[27]
  • ^[12] The mine operated from July 2006 to April 2007, with milling continuing until October 2007. Absolute figure for the duration of operation of the mine from July 2006 to October 2007.
  • ^[13] Mount Gibson was mined from 1986 to 1998 and purchased by Legend from Oroya Mining Limited in 2005.
  • ^[14] Monarch purchased Mount Ida and commenced production in 2007. On 12 July 2008, Monarch went into administration, ending operations at the mine. A deal struck with Stirling Resources Limited in June 2009 could see the mine reopen in 2010.[18] New owners, Swan Gold Mining, plans to reopen Davyhurst in May 2010 and Mt Ida in October of the same year.[28] Figures for July 2007 to March 2008.
  • ^[15] Mine in care and maintenance, having been in production from 2002 to 2007,[29] its infrastructure was used for the Waterloo Nickel Mine, which is also now in care and maintenance.
