List of railway roundhouses
This is a partial list of railway roundhouses. A roundhouse is a building used for servicing locomotives, large, circular or semicircular structures often located adjacent to or surrounding turntables.

Australia
- Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre located in Goulburn features the largest heritage based operating roundhouse in NSW and displays the historic transition from steam to diesel operations.
- Steamtown Peterborough Museum, a railway museum located in Peterborough, South Australia includes a roundhouse.
- Valley Heights Locomotive Depot Heritage Museum, located at Valley Heights, 75 km west of Sydney, contains the oldest surviving roundhouse in Australia.
- Broadmeadow Locomotive Depot, located at Broadmeadow in Newcastle. The 1948 vintage No.2 roundhouse survives,a second roundhouse dating from 1924 was also on the site but it was demolished in 1990.
- The Lachlan Valley Railway is based at Cowra roundhouse.
- Pacific National use the remains of the roundhouse at Werris Creek, New South Wales.
- Gemco Rail use the roundhouse at Parkes, New South Wales.
- The roundhouse at Casino, New South Wales still stands although currently out of use.
Canada
- John Street Roundhouse, in Toronto, Ontario, which is now the Steam Whistle Brewing, was formerly a Canadian Pacific Railway steam locomotive repair facility
- CNR Spadina Roundhouse was also in Toronto until it was demolished in 1986
- Vancouver Roundhouse, now the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre, in Vancouver, British Columbia
- Michigan Central Railroad Roundhouse, at 240 Waterloo St. in London, Ontario, constructed in 1887 to service steam locomotives and ceased operations in the late 1890s. It has been restored as a digital media centre.[1]
- Roundhouse in Hornepayne, Ontario made by the Canadian National Railway.
- Biggar Roundhouse, built by the Grand Trunk Pacific Railwayin 1909, (Demolished February to March 2015)
- Hanna, AB Roundhouse is half-collapsed, but is otherwise in good condition.
France
- Chambéry roundhouse, built between 1906 and 1910 in Chambéry (still exists).
- Longueville roundhouse, in Longueville which is now the "Musée vivant du Chemin de Fer".
- Montluçon roundhouse in Montluçon.
- Mohon roundhouses in Charleville-Mézières (one of the two still exists).
- Nogent-Vincennes roundhouse, built in 1849 in Paris-la Villette depot, where it was used until it was disassembled in 1859, and then rebuilt in Nogent-Vincennes depot.
- Strasbourg-Hausbergen roundhouses.
- Colmar roundhouses (one of the two still exists).
- Sarrebourg roundhouse.
- Bénestroff roundhouse (still exists).
Germany
Hungary
- Budapest North Depot (now the Hungarian Railway Museum).
Italy
- Turin, near Porta Nouva terminal. Two large roundhouses, one still currently in use by the FS electric locomotive fleet, the other is used as storage for historical equipment. Neither is accessible to the public.
Japan
- Umekoji Steam Locomotive Museum in Kyoto
- Tsuyama Roundhouse in Tsuyama
Mexico
- Guadalajara Ferrocarriles Mexicanos yards southwest of downtown. Still in use.
- San Luis Potosi Ferrocarriles Mexicanos yards. Still in use.
Poland
There are several dozen round houses still in operational use in Poland (albeit for diesel or electric locomotives) each with electric powered turntables. Many also remain extant but unused such as Gnieszno and Bydgoszcz. Below are ones associated with steam preservation.

United Kingdom
- Barrow Hill Engine Shed is a roundhouse in Derbyshire
- North Midland Railway roundhouse, a listed building built in 1839 at Derby, England
- The Roundhouse, Chalk Farm, London, England was built in 1847, but was too small for its function within 20 years (it is now an arts center).
- Roundhouse and half-roundhouse, Wellington Road/Graingers Way, Leeds – both built in approx. 1847, and are Listed buildings. The much larger roundhouse is occupied by a commercial vehicle hire company; the half-roundhouse now houses a retail wine warehouse and a procurement management company.
- Roundhouse and working turntable St Blazey, Cornwall, now on Historic England's Heritage at Risk Register
United States
- Age of Steam Roundhouse in Sugarcreek, Ohio.
- Hot Springs Railroad Roundhouse in Hot Spring County, Arkansas
- Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown, California includes a roundhouse, as does California State Railroad Museum in Sacramento
- Lenzen Roundhouse was in San Jose, California. It is currently disassembled while the California Trolley and Railroad Corporation searches for a site to reassemble it.
- Timber Heritage Association is leasing the historic roundhouse and shops built back in the 1890s in Samoa, Humboldt County, California.
- Midland Terminal Railroad Roundhouse in Colorado Springs, Colorado
- Como Roundhouse, Railroad Depot and Hotel Complex in Como, Colorado
- Connecticut Valley Railroad Roundhouse and Turntable Site in Old Saybrook, Connecticut
- Roundhouse Railroad Museum is in Savannah, Georgia
- Roundhouse of the Hawaii Consolidated Railway in Hilo listed in 2005 among most endangered historic sites in Hawaii.[4]

- Chicago and North Western Roundhouse in Huron, South Dakota
- Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Martinsburg Shops is in West Virginia
- Baltimore and Ohio Railroad Cumberland Roundhouse, located in Cumberland, Maryland still in use by CSX as a locomotive shop.
- Norfolk and Western Railroad Williamson Roundhouse, a 21-stall roundhouse in Williamson, West Virginia now owned by Norfolk Southern and used as a car shop.[5]
- Southern Pacific Railroad Roundhouse and Yard in Lafayette, Louisiana
- New Orleans Public Belt Railroad Roundhouse in New Orleans, Louisiana
- Vermont Railway Headquarters, located in the former Rutland Railroad's roundhouse in Burlington, Vermont.
- Union Pacific Railroad Complex in Evanston, Wyoming.[1]
- Union Pacific Roundhouse, Turntable and Machine Shop, now part of the Wyoming Transportation Museum in Cheyenne[6]
- San Antonio Texas, turntable without roundhouse remains southwest of Duval & Hackberry streets.
- BNSF Railway Interbay Roundhouse, at Balmer Yard, Seattle, Washington
- Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad, Gibson Roundhouse, Hammond, Indiana
- Norfolk Southern Roundhouse, Asheville, NC, slated for demolition due to unsafe conditions
- Port Huron & Detroit Railroad Roundhouse in Port Huron, Michigan
- Detroit, Toledo & Milwaukee Roundhouse at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan
- Roundhouse (possibly B&O) Hazelwood, Pa
- Roundhouse Penn Argyl, Pa. Now used by Waste Management
- Midwest Railway Preservation Society roundhouse, a former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad facility in Cleveland, Ohio [7]
