List of royal weddings

A royal wedding is a marriage ceremony involving members of a royal family. Weddings involving senior members of the royal family are often seen as important occasions of state and attract significant national and international attention.
United Kingdom
Westminster Abbey has a long tradition as a venue for royal weddings,[1] although there was a hiatus of these from 1382 until 1919, and only two of these weddings were of the reigning monarch of the time (Henry I and Richard II).
- Medieval
- 1053: William I to Matilda of Flanders at the Cathedral of Notre Dame d'Eu.[2]
- 11 November 1100: Henry I was married to Matilda of Scotland at the Westminster Abbey.
- 9 April 1269: Prince Edmund (Earl of Lancaster), son of Henry III, was married to Aveline de Forz at the Westminster Abbey.
- 30 April 1290: Joan of Acre, daughter of Edward I, was married to Gilbert de Clare, 7th Earl of Gloucester at the Westminster Abbey.
- 8 July 1290: Margaret of England, daughter of Edward I, was married to John II at the Westminster Abbey.
- 20 January 1382: Richard II was married to Anne of Bohemia at the Westminster Abbey.
- Modern
- 8 April 1795: Prince George, Prince of Wales eldest son and successor of King George III, was married to Princess Caroline, Duchess of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.
- 10 February 1840: Queen Victoria, only daughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent and Strathearn and successor of King William IV was married to Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, Duke of Saxony at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.[3]
- 10 March 1863: Prince Edward, Prince of Wales, eldest son and successor of Queen Victoria, was married to Princess Alexandra of Denmark at the St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.
- 6 July 1893: Prince George, Duke of York, second son of King Edward VII, was married to Princess Victoria Mary of Teck at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.
- 27 February 1919: Princess Patricia of Connaught, granddaughter of Queen Victoria, was married to Alexander Ramsay DSO at the Westminster Abbey.
- 28 February 1922: Princess Mary, only daughter of King George V, was married to Viscount Lascelles at the Westminster Abbey.
- 26 April 1923: Prince Albert, Duke of York, second son of King George V and successor to King Edward VIII, was married to Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon at the Westminster Abbey.
- 29 November 1934: Prince George, Duke of Kent, fourth son of King George V, was married to Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark at the Westminster Abbey.
- 6 November 1935: Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester, third son of King George V was married to Alice Montagu-Douglas-Scott at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.
- 3 June 1937: Prince Edward eldest son and successor to George V and abdicated King, was married to Bessie Wallis Warfield Simpson at the Château de Candé.[4]
- 20 November 1947: Princess Elizabeth, eldest daughter and successor of King George VI, was married to Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten at the Westminster Abbey.
- 6 May 1960: Princess Margaret, second daughter of King George VI, was married to Antony Charles Robert Armstrong-Jones at the Westminster Abbey.
- 8 June 1961: Prince Edward, Duke of Kent was married to Katharine Worsley at the York Minster.
- 24 April 1963: Princess Alexandra of Kent was married to Angus Ogilvy at the Westminster Abbey.
- 8 July 1972: Prince Richard of Gloucester was married to Birgitte van Deurs at the St Andrew's Church.
- 14 November 1973: Princess Anne, only daughter of Elizabeth II, was married to Captain Mark Anthony Peter Phillips at the Westminster Abbey.[5]
- 30 June 1978: Prince Michael of Kent was married to Baroness Marie Christine von Reibnitz at the Wiener Rathaus in Austria.
- 29 July 1981: Charles, Prince of Wales, eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and heir apparent, was married to Diana Frances Spencer at the St Paul's Cathedral.[3]
- 23 July 1986: Prince Andrew, second son of Elizabeth II, was married to Sarah Ferguson at the Westminster Abbey.[6]
- 12 December 1992: Anne, Princess Royal, only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II was married to Captain Timothy James Hamilton Laurence at the Crathie Kirk.[7]
- 19 June 1999: Prince Edward, youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II, was married to Sophie Helen Rhys-Jones at the St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle.[8]
- 9 April 2005: Charles, Prince of Wales, eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II and heir apparent, was married to Camilla Parker Bowles at the Windsor Guildhall.[9]
- 29 April 2011: Prince William of Wales, second grandson of Queen Elizabeth II, eldest son of Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, and second in line to the throne, was married to Catherine Elizabeth Middleton at the Westminster Abbey.[10]

- 8 September 1933: Prince Knud of Denmark, youngest son of Christian X of Denmark, was married to his first cousin, Princess Caroline-Mathilde of Denmark at the Church of Our Lady, Copenhagen.
- 24 May 1935: Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark and Iceland, eldest son of Christian X of Denmark and then, heir apparent, was married to Princess Ingrid of Sweden at Storkyrkan, Stockholm
- 10 June 1967: Crown Princess Margrethe of Denmark, eldest daughter and successor to Frederik IX of Denmark, was married to Count Henri de Laborde de Monpezat at the Holmens Kirke, Copenhagen.
- 3 February 1968: Princess Benedikte of Denmark, second daughter of Frederik IX, was married to Richard, 6th Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg at the Church of Our Lady, Copenhagen.
- 18 November 1995: Prince Joachim of Denmark, youngest son of Margrethe II of Denmark, was married to Alexandra Christina Manley at the Frederiksborg Slotskirke, Hillerød.
- 14 May 2004: Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark, eldest son of Margrethe II of Denmark and heir apparent, was married to Mary Elizabeth Donaldson at the Church of Our Lady, Copenhagen.
- 24 May 2008: Prince Joachim of Denmark, youngest son of Margrethe II of Denmark, was married to Marie Agathe Odile Cavallier at the Møgeltønder Church, Møgeltønder.

- Serbian prince (rival pretender) Petar Karađorđević married Zorka Petrović-Njegoš, 30 July 1883 in Cetinje, Principality of Montenegro.[15] Petar ruled as King of Serbia 1903–18.
