• National (Direct): Directly administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education (MOE)
• National (Other): Administered by other ministries
• Ω (National Key Universities): Universities with high regards from the MOE and the Chinese government
• Provincial: Public university administered by the province
• Municipal: Public university administered by the municipality
• Private: Privately owned and funded university

• Ningxia University (宁夏大学)
• Ningxia Medical University (宁夏医学院)
• Ningxia Institute of Technology (Shizuishan), became part of Ningxia University in 1997
• Northern Nationalities University (北方民族大学, originally the Second Northwest Nationalities University 西北第二民族学院)
• Yinchuan University (银川大学)
