Film

• Child's Play 3 is set in this year.
• Bride of Chucky, set immediately after the events of Child's Play 3.
• Deep Impact 10 May 1998 In Richmond, Virginia, at a star party, teenage amateur astronomer Leo Biederman first spotted the comet next to the stars Mizar and Alcor. He sends the picture to Dr Wolf. Dr wolf finds that the comet would hit Earth, but dies in a car crash before warning the Earth.
• Purple Storm 23 June until 6 July 1998 in New Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok opens while the historic Old Hong Kong International Airport at Kai Tak closes.

Literature

• The satire Memoirs of the Twentieth Century (1733) takes the form of a series of diplomatic letters written in 1997 and 1998.
• In the fantasy series Harry Potter, the title character, defeats his nemesis, Lord Voldemort on 2 May of this year, once and for all.
