Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania (GIPL), also known as Lithuania–Poland pipeline, is a proposed natural gas pipeline interconnection between Lithuania and Poland that is expected to be finished by 2019. The pipeline is a part of the Baltic Energy Market Interconnection Plan project.[1]
History
In August 2014, Polish and Lithuanian gas transmission system operators both submitted applications for EU support for the project.[2] The construction works are planned to start in 2016 and to be finished by 2019.[3] The expected capacity of the pipeline is 2.3 billion cubic metres per annum with possibility to expand it to 4.5 billion cubic metres per annum.[4] Expected cost of the project is €471 million.
