Liza Colón-Zayas (born c. 1972) is an American actress and playwright.
Early life and education
She was born and raised in the The Bronx borough of New York City, and began her career starring in Off-Broadway productions. She broke into mainstream theatre when she wrote, produced, and starred in a one-woman show titled Sistah Supreme, a semi-autobiographical play in which she chronicles growing up as an Latina woman in New York during the 1970s and 1980s.[1]
Career
Colón-Zayas has been a member of the LAByrinth Theatre Company,[2] a New York based traveling actors' group, since 1992. She has also appeared in television series such as Sex and the City and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and played a passenger in the film United 93.
She guest starred as in the fifth season of the Showtime series Dexter (episode 7 & 8) as a snitch role in relation to the "Santa Muerte killings investigations".
She also originated the role of Norca in the off-Broadway productions of Our Lady of 121st Street and In Arabia, We'd All Be Kings (which co-starred Ana Ortiz) and were directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman). The latter production was named one of the ten best plays of 1999 by Time Out New York magazine.
In 2008 she appeared in the film Righteous Kill playing the role of Judge Angel Rodriguez and as of 2016 appeared in "Stomping Grounds" the 13th episode of the 6th season of the CBS police procedural drama Blue Bloods playing the role of Ana Baez the sister of Detective Maria Baez.
Personal life
Colón-Zayas is married to the actor David Zayas.
