Logan Andrew Basson (born 9 March 1989 in King William's Town) is a South African rugby union player, currently playing with the Border Bulldogs.[1] His is a utility back that can play as a full-back, winger or fly-half.
Career
Youth
As a student at Dale College, he played for the Border Bulldogs at underage level, representing them at the 2005 Under-16 Grant Khomo Week, as well as the 2007 Under-18 Craven Week.
He joined the Sharks Academy in 2008 and played for their U-19 team in the 2008 Under-19 Provincial Championship competition.
Griquas
His first class debut came for Griquas in the 2010 Vodacom Cup. He started three matches for them in the fly-half position towards the end of that competition, scoring eleven points in his debut match against the Leopards,[2] eight points a week later against the Falcons[3] and also played in their narrow 28–24 Quarter Final defeat against former team the Sharks XV.[4]
After a loan spell at the Border Bulldogs (see below), he made seven more appearances for the Griquas during the 2011 Vodacom Cup competition, scoring two tries.
Border Bulldogs (loan)
He joined the Border Bulldogs on loan[5] for the 2010 Currie Cup First Division season,[6] making ten appearances (including one in a pre-season compulsory friendly match against the Free State Cheetahs) and scoring 87 points, ending fourth in the scoring charts.[7]
SWD Eagles
He joined George-based side the SWD Eagles on loan for the 2011 Currie Cup First Division season,[8] making two appearances.
Border Bulldogs
He joined the Border Bulldogs once again in 2012,[9] scoring 23 points in six matches during the 2012 Vodacom Cup and making three starts for them during the 2012 Currie Cup First Division.
NMMU Madibaz
In 2013, he made seven appearances for Varsity Cup side NMMU Madibaz, helping them to their first semi-final appearance in the competition. However, he missed a crucial penalty in injury time and they lost the match 16–15.[10]
Griquas
He linked up with former team Griquas again during the 2013 Currie Cup Premier Division season, being included on the bench for their final match of the 2013 Currie Cup Premier Division season against the Golden Lions.[11]
Free State Cheetahs
In 2014, he was included in the Free State XV side that participated in the 2014 Vodacom Cup.[12]
Border Bulldogs (2015)
He had yet another spell at the Border Bulldogs in 2015, being included in their squad for the 2015 Vodacom Cup.[13]
Personal
He is the younger brother of Springbok rugby player Bjorn Basson.[14]
