The London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF) is a science enrichment programme for students from all over the globe. The Science Forum each year brings together some 450 students of the sciences, from over 65 countries in the 5 continents.
About the Forum
LIYSF is a two residential forum for young scientists gathered from around the world, based at Imperial College London. Students are aged between 17–21 years old and are from 65 countries around the world.
For two weeks students attend lectures from top scientists, go to visit research institutions and university laboratories. Students also share their cultures with each other with a variety of cultural and social events.
The mission statement of LIYSF is:
"Founded in 1959, LIYSF aims to give a deeper insight into science and its applications for the benefit of all mankind and to develop a greater understanding between young people of all nations." [1]
History
The London International Youth Science Forum was established in 1959 and was designed to bring together young people from around the world to discuss and learn about each other's cultures. The event has run every year since and grown in size considerable, now attracting 500 students from 65 countries. The founding Patron of LIYSF is Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh
Top speakers attend each year and have recently included; Professor Fiona Watt, Lord Robert Winston, Professor Sir Roy M. Anderson, Professor Mark McCaughrean, Professor Lesley Yellowlees, Professor Dame Carol Robinson, Professor John Ellis, Professor Sir Christopher Llewellyn Smith and Professor David Phillips (chemist).
Forums
The Science Forum has been running annually since 1959.
LIYSF takes places at the end of July and the beginning of August each year.
The next edition is taking place 27 July to 10 August 2016
