London Metropolitan University Students’ Union (MetSU) is an independent, democratic students' union for students at London Metropolitan University. It provides representation, advice and support to students at the University.
MetSU is run on a day-to-day basis by the Executive Committee. This is made up of five full-time sabbatical officers and five part time officers. The Student Council is the governing body of the SU. It is made up of 46 students who represent a number of constituencies such as faculty student academic representatives (StARs) and society reps. The Students' Union also has many student volunteers who are the key to the work of the SU. Every student of London Metropolitan University is member of Students' Union.
Location
MetSU has two offices in City and North Campus. MetSU office is at CM2-22 Calcutta House, Old Castle Street, London E1 7NT and North Campus office is in Tower Building Room No TMG-74-75, 166-220 Holloway Road, London, N7 8DB.
History
London Metropolitan University Students’ Union (MetSU) established in 2002 when London Metropolitan University (London Met) was formed by the amalgamation of the University of North London (est.1896) and the London Guildhall University (est.1848) on 1 August 2002.
Student media
Verve is MetSU's monthly magazine. It carries stories, reviews and features on a range of topics, reporting on student news, clubs and societies, as well as coverage of the arts, music and fashion. Verve Radio is the Station run by and for London Met's students.
Services and facilities
MetSU working closely working with the Students' Office to run societies in the University and arrange a plenty of opportunities for students in engage in voluntary activities. MetSU organize different events, activities and campaigns throughout the whole year and engage students in order to enhance students' overall student experience. MetSU also run Student Academic Representative (StAR)scheme, who are students elected by their peers to represent the voice of students on that course.
Advice and support
The primary role of MetSU is to provide student representation and advocacy. To represent the students of the University in matters affecting their interests and to act as the means of communication between the students and the University. Students' Union Case workers provide much of the individual advice and representation to students regarding academic issues and misconduct.
Student Council
The Student Council is the governing body of the London Metropolitan University Students' Union (MetSU). It is the main decision-making body of the MetSU and is also there to hold the Executive Committee (elected officers) to account. Its constituents are made up of the Executive Committee, societies representatives, departmental Student Academic Representatives or StARs, six directly elected Independent Student Council Members and four co-oped students who are elected during the first Student Council meeting of the Year in late October.
