Mission statement

According to the Long Island Wrestling Association's website: "The Long Island Wrestling Association is a voluntary, not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering, promoting and encouraging the sport of amateur wrestling on Long Island as a means of building character, physical health and well-being, sportsmanship, self-confidence, self-esteem, and positive attitudes about dedication, persistence, intensity and hard work among the younger generation in order to fit them more adequately in their future role in society."[2]

High school wrestling

The organization works to help promote the sport of amateur wrestling on Long Island, especially in high schools where most of the amateur competition is. The organization's site offers a wide range of information, past and present, on high school wrestlers and teams. Information such as dual meet and tournament results as well as rankings can be found on the site.[3]

Besides offering its services to student athletes during the wrestling season, it also offers services and opportunities for such wrestlers to improve. The organization's site offers a wealth of information regarding off-season tournaments, clinics, and summer camps.[4][5] The LIWA also holds its annual Summer Heat tournament, a summer folk-style wrestling tournament open to all wrestlers.[6]

Besides helping the individual wrestlers, the LIWA offers its services to high schools and coaches as well. The organization offers opportunities for coaches seeking jobs and schools seeking coaches to find each other.[7]
