Lorna Katie Fitzgerald (born 17 April 1996)[1][2] is a British actress from Northampton. She lives in Hunsbury.[3] Her most notable role to date is that of Abi Branning in the British soap opera EastEnders.

Personal life

Fitzgerald started attending Stagecoach Drama Classes at the age of four.[4] She has two older sisters, Corinne and Abigail. She is a keen dancer and enjoys ballet and tap.[5] She also plays the guitar and keeps active by swimming.[5][6]

Career

She appeared in the Casualty episode "Animals",[5][6][7] and a short film called Big Girl, Little Girl.[4][8] She also appeared in the ITV drama The Golden Hour,[6] as well as playing Sarah Lancashire's daughter Jade Cannings in Cherished,[5][6][9] and Young Bex in According to Bex.[10] She has also been in adverts for Childline and Nescafe.

Some time after attending acting classes, Fitzgerald joined the Stagecoach Theatre Arts School in Stony Stratford, and Derngate Theatre School.[4] Through her agent, she heard about the role in BBC One soap opera EastEnders, and went to the BBC Studios in London for the first of three auditions.[4] She was cast as Abi Branning, making her first appearance in 2006.[5][6][11][11]

In November 2009, Fitzgerald was actively involved in a charity project in Northampton called Talking With Hands, a charity for people with hearing impairments and deafness. The project featured on ITV's Anglia News, alongside deaf actor Alex Nowak, and Fitzgerald helped with this project a great deal.[12]
