The Lost Rhino Brewing Company is a brewery located in Ashburn, Virginia, USA.[1] The company produces both beer and root beer.[2] Their flagship Pilsner-style beer is called Rhino Chasers Pilsner.[3]
History
Lost Rhino Brewing Company was founded by Matt Hagerman and Favio Garcia, two veterans of the Northern Virginia brewing community. They were former brewers for Old Dominion Brewing Company and have a deep commitment to continuing the strong brewing tradition in Loudoun County.[4] Brewing operations officially began in May 2011. In two years, the brewery has grown to just under 5,000 barrels per annum. In addition to three core brands and four seasonal brands, every month the brewery produces a special limited release beer. In 2013, Garcia and Jasper Akerboom brewed Native Son,[5] the first all Virginia beer in modern history. The malt and hops were grown in state, the water was local, and local Ashburn yeast was cultured at the brewery.
Megafauna is an India Pale Lager[6] beer released in September in honor of World Rhino Day on September 22. A portion of all sales of the beer in the brewery's tasting room is donated to Save the Rhino International.[7]
