Louis Ng Kok Kwang (simplified Chinese: 黄国光; traditional Chinese: 黃國光; pinyin: Huáng Guó Guāng; born 8 December 1978[1]) is a Singaporean politician and founder of Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES). A member of the Singapore-based People's Action Party (PAP), he has been serving as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Nee Soon Group Representation Constituency (GRC) since September 2015.[2]

Education

Ng had his early education at St. Gabriel's Secondary School and Catholic Junior College.[1] He went on to complete his B.Sc. (Biology) degree in 2002 at the National University of Singapore.[1] He then proceeded to Oxford Brookes University and obtained his M.Sc. degree in Primate Conservation.[1]

Career

While still an undergraduate in 2001, Ng founded Animal Concerns Research and Education Society (ACRES), an animal protection organisation aimed at fostering a spirit of volunteerism and working with the community to create much-needed awareness on animal protection issues.[3] Upon graduating from the National University of Singapore in 2002, began full-time work in ACRES, leading ACRES from a volunteer-run organisation to one with over 20 full-time staff and over S$1 million in 2014.[4]

Political career

On 26 August 2015, the People's Action Party (PAP) announced that Ng would be part of a five-member PAP team contesting in Nee Soon GRC in the 2015 general election.[5] Ng was elected into Parliament following the 2015 Singapore General Elections, when their five-member PAP team won and clinched 66.83% of the electorate's valid votes.[6]
