Lucien Szpiro is a French mathematician, known for his work in number theory, arithmetic algebraic geometry, and commutative algebra.

He attended Paris-Sud 11 University where he earned his Ph.D. under Pierre Samuel and Maurice Auslander. He then taught at Paris-Sud 11, Columbia University, and the City University of New York.

He is known for Szpiro's conjecture, which is related to the abc conjecture.

In 2012 he became a fellow of the American Mathematical Society.[1]
