Luiz Loures
Luiz Loures is the Deputy Executive Director, Programme, Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). He was appointed to this position by the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on 14 December 2012. [1]
Biography
Dr. Loures started as a critical care physician at the Hospital Joao XXIII in Belo Horizonte, Brazil and later on moved to the rank of chief physician of the AIDS unit. He joined UNAIDS in 1996 when it was created. He then served as a special advisor on AIDS to the health ministry in Brazil.[2]
Throughout the years at UNAIDS, he took a number of positions within the organization. Between 2009 and 2012, he served as Director on Political and Public Affairs of the Executive Office of UNAIDS.
