Lukas Graham is a Danish pop band consisting of vocalist Lukas Graham Forchhammer (born September 18, 1988), drummer Mark "Lovestick" Falgren (born November 28, 1988), bassist Magnus Larsson, and keyboardist Kasper Daugaard (born June 14, 1989). Launching their debut album in 2012 on Copenhagen Records, Lukas Graham quickly became a popular live act in Denmark. That success translated to the rest of Europe and caught the attention of Warner Bros. Records who co-signed them in 2013. The band’s music was first introduced worldwide with the release of their two singles "Mama Said" and "7 Years", the latter of which topped various international charts. Their second album was released internationally on April 1.
Career
2011–12: Career beginnings
The band started their career in Denmark in late 2011 when they released two homemade YouTube videos of themselves performing Criminal Mind and Drunk in the Morning, recorded in Lukas' home. The videos were shared on Facebook among friends, and soon they had several hundred thousand views.[1][2] The band's soulful and funky sound[3] quickly spread in the Copenhagen underground and through online postings, which led Copenhagen Records to sign them. Lukas Graham achieved commercial success in October 2011 with the release of their debut single. Their first Danish tour sold over 30,000 concert tickets, even though their album had not been released yet.[4]
2012–14: Debut album
In 2012 the band launched their self-titled first full-length album, which went quadruple-platinum in Denmark and yielded three smashes—"Drunk in the Morning" and "Better Than Yourself (Criminal Mind Pt 2)" went to number 1 and "Ordinary Things" peaked at 2.
That success translated to the rest of Europe. In Germany, "Drunk in the Morning" became a staple and reached number 1 on iTunes. "Happy Home" would give him his third number one in Denmark in 2014 and went multi-platinum in Norway and Sweden. Also known for a phenomenal live show, Lukas Graham went on to play countless sold out shows and earn festival main stage spots becoming the most popular live act in Denmark.
2015–present: Blue Album and international success
In 2015, the band released their follow-up album Lukas Graham (Blue Album) with three of its tracks making it to number 1 on the Danish singles chart: "Mama Said", "Strip No More" and "7 Years", with the latter a veritable international hit that also topped the Swedish Singles Chart. The song also reached number 1 in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. It debuted at number 96 on the US Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number two, becoming the band's first top five hit in the United States. On 28 January 2016 the band announced on Facebook that a version of Lukas Graham (Blue Album) would be their first worldwide studio album, including the singles "Mama Said", "Strip No More" and "7 Years".[5]
