Luke Newberry (born 19 February 1990) is a BAFTA nominated English actor whose most notable role is that of Kieren Walker, the protagonist in the BBC Three drama In the Flesh, which first aired in 2013.
Career
Newberry was first signed with an agent aged 7 and at age 11 he played the role of Colin Craven in the stage version of The Secret Garden, and also appeared in the film The Heart of Me with Helena Bonham Carter and Paul Bettany.
In 2010 Newberry was cast to play Teddy Lupin in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 but was cut from the final film.[1] He has acted on stage as well in films playing Haemon in Sophocles' Antigone at the National Theatre.[2] In 2015, Newberry played the lead role of Gabe in 'Teddy Ferrara' at the Donmar Warehouse, directed by Dominic Cooke.
In 2013 Newberry starred in the leading role of the BBC Three supernatural drama In the Flesh.[3] He was nominated for BAFTA TV Award for Best Actor for the series 1 in 2014 and the series 2 began airing on BBC Three in the same year.[4] Newberry was also nominated for Best Actor at the RTS Awards 2014.
In 2013, Newberry was one of Screen International's Stars of Tomorrow.
He stars in the upcoming film Dusty and Me with Genevieve Gaunt, Iain Glen and Lesley Sharp.
Personal life
Newberry was born in Exeter, Devon. He attended Exeter College, where he studied Film-making, Fine Art and English Literature, and played the lead role in a college production of Hamlet.[5] Aged 18, he attended the prestigious Bristol Old Vic Theatre School to study acting, graduating in 2011.[6]
Newberry has two older sisters.[2] He is a supporter of the HeForShe feminism campaign[7]
