Lutz Mommartz

Lutz Mommartz (born March 6, 1934 in Erkelenz) is a German filmmaker.

Biography

Mommartz' parents moved the family to Düsseldorf in 1937, where he spent the entirety of his young adult life, working for the local government of the city from 1957 until 1975. His artistic pursuits began with painting, but in 1967 he chose 16mm film as his primary medium, having won the highest prize at a world-renowned experimental film festival in Knocke-le-Zoute, Belgium, for his film entitled Selbstschüsse. From 1978 to 1999, he was a professor of film at the Künstakademie Münster. From 1999 until 2002, he returned to Düsseldorf, and from 2001 he divides his time between there and Berlin.
