The song was written by Coleman, M.D. DeBarge, R. Hall, and E. Jordan. The song was released in 1995 as the second single from the album through Columbia Records/Sony Music Entertainment. The original version samples "Stay With Me" by DeBarge. The acronym M.V.P. stands for "most valuable poet".[1]
