MAFRA is a Czech media group oriented mainly on printed and internet media. The company was a subsidiary of German group Rheinisch-Bergische Druckerei- und Verlagsgesellschaft GmbH[2][1] (the publisher of the Rheinische Post), which bought MAFRA from French press group Socpresse in 1994. In 2013, the Czech entrepreneur, owner of the Agrofert group and later Minister of Finance of the Czech Republic Andrej Babiš bought the conglomerate.[3]

Company headquarters in Prague's Smíchov neighborhood

MAFRA publishes daily newspaper MF Dnes, which, with 224 thousand newspaper circulation as of March 2011 is the second largest newspaper in the Czech Republic,[4] after tabloid Blesk. Fully owned subsidiary Lidové noviny, a.s. publishes daily newspaper Lidové noviny with circulation of 44 thousand, 60% subsidiary METRO Česká republika, a.s. publishes a freesheet Czech edition of Metro with a circulation of 266 thousand.[5]

Other assets include two printing works (in Prague and Olomouc), the TV music channel Óčko and the radio stations Expresradio and Rádio Classic FM.
