MECOMS is an ERP, business support system and CRM for energy and utility companies.[1][2] MECOMS is built on Microsoft Dynamics AX, and is a core Microsoft solution for the utilities vertical.[3][4]
MECOMS is built around four major business domains: Customer Care & Billing, Meter Data Management, Market Interaction, and Operations, each having a number of subdomains related to them. The software extends Microsoft Dynamics AX to cover all typical utility processes, such as Meter-to-Cash.[5] The main competitors are SAP IS-U and Oracle Utilities.
Development
MECOMS is developed by Ferranti Computer Systems, the Belgian descendant of the former Ferranti International plc. As an ISV it develops and markets the MECOMS product in the Benelux and throughout an international channel organization of registered partners in EMEA and AsiaPac.[6][7]
History
Development of the "Metering and Contract Management System" started in the Mid 1990's. At first it was a peak-shaving solution known as PECS. Soon this evolved into the first real MECOMS system. In 2005 a major new version was introduced, built upon Microsoft's Dynamics AX.[8]
Adoption
MECOMS has been implemented at public and private utility companies in Belgium and the Netherlands since the 1990s. Since 2007, the product has been sold internationally and it is now being used by utilities in Denmark, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, India, Sweden, Singapore and Seychelles.[9][10]
