MLS First Kick

Major League Soccer First Kick is an opening match of a MLS season. Since 2008, it has aired on ESPN2.

First Kick 2008

First Kick 2008 was played on March 29. This game featured the New England Revolution and the Houston Dynamo, which was a rematch of the previous years MLS Cup. They played in Foxborough, Massachusetts, at Gillette Stadium. It was a special game for New England because they had never had a home opener on home turf. New England won with a score of 3-0.[1] Goals were scored for New England by Ralston in the 16th minute, Cristman in the 32nd minute and Nyassi in additional time around the 93rd minute.[2][3]

First Kick 2009

First Kick 2009 was played on March 19. This game featured the Seattle Sounders FC and the New York Red Bulls. They played in Seattle Washington, at Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field. This was a special game for the Seattle because it was the first regular season game ever. Seattle won the game 3-0 with goals scored in the 12th minute by Montero, 25th minute by Evans and in the 75th minute again by Montero.[4][5]

First Kick 2010

First Kick 2010 was played on March 25. This game featured the Seattle Sounders FC and the Philadelphia Union. They played in Seattle Washington, at Xbox Pitch at Qwest Field. Seattle won the game with a score of 2-0. Goals were scored in the 12th minute by Evans and in the 43rd minute by Montero.[6][7]

First Kick 2011

First Kick 2011 was played on March 15. This game featured the Seattle Sounders FC and the LA Galaxy. They played in Seattle Washington, at Xbox Pitch at Quest Field. The LA Galaxy went away with the win with a score of 1-0. Juninho scored in the 58th minute for the Galaxy.[8][9]

First Kick 2012

First Kick 2012 was played on March 12. This game featured the Philadelphia Union and the Portland Timbers. They played in Portland Oregon, at JELD-WEN Field. The Portland Timbers won the game 3-1 even though Philadelphia scored first. Philadelphia's lone goal was scored by Gomez in the 51st minute. Portland answered right away with goals in the 54th minute by Baptiste, 66th minute by Boyd and 76th minute by Alhassan. This was the most amount of goals scored in any of the First Kick games.[10]

First Kick 2013

First Kick 2013 is still being determined.
