MV Normandie is a ferry operated by Brittany Ferries. She was built at Kværner Masa-Yards Turku New Shipyard in Finland and has been sailing for Brittany Ferries since 1992.
SECA 2015 refit
On the 1st January 2015, the EU (including the North Sea, English Channel, Eastern side of the Western Channel and Baltic Sea) will have sulphur in marine fuel cut from the allowance in 2014 of 1% to 0.1% of sulphur allowed, Brittany Ferries then abundantly announced in January 2014 that they were going to fit scrubbers to a number of elder vessels, convert newer vessels to LNG and construct a new LNG powered ferry but Brittany Ferries later withdrew and cancelled the order and the LNG conversions, instead they announced that all vessels were to have scrubbers systems fitted. Normandie departed her usual service between Portsmouth-Caen and departed for Cherbourg which she arrived at on the 16th October at 10:19 am and soon departed for Santander and arrived on the 18 October and soon entered dry dock, work carried out involved the renovation of her public areas and also the fitting of the scrubber system to her funnel which involved adding a very large cubed shape box to the top of her funnel, Normandie is the first in the fleet to have the system and is to be followed by the Cap Finistère in March 2015 and Barfleur in May 2015. She departed Astillero shipyard on the 28th December 2014 before passing Santander on the same day bound for Cherbourg when she arrived the following day on the 29th December and then later departed at 11am on the 30th Dec bound for Portsmouth where she arrived the same day; she will now replace the Armorique which was covering the Normandie whilst she was away on refit.
Routes served
- Portsmouth-Caen (Ouistreham) 1992–present
Normandie rarely strays from the route for which she was built, however she has operated between Portsmouth and Cherbourg on a number of sailings, mostly for Christmas and New Year lay overs but also in 1994 to transport the Tour de France back to its home country after a leg in the United Kingdom.
