Madeline Thinking Games is a 1996 video game in the "Madeline" franchise.[1] It was developed by Creative Wonders and released for the PC.

Production

The music room contains movies taken from the Madeline television series.[2]

Madeline Thinking Games Deluxe contains a bonus disc (Madeline European Adventures) in this "challenging two-CD set".[3] PC Mag notes this game "seems to involve more pointing, clicking, and dragging than actual brainpower".[4]

Gameplay

Madeline invites players into her house, where 11 activities can be played. There are six rooms in the house (four downstairs and two upstairs) and one game that can be played out in the garden. Most rooms have two games located in each of them. Skills such as matching and memory are tested, while creativity is also encouraged. Maths, sorting, and following a list are also explored.[2] The game teaches both French and Spanish vocabulary as well.[5]

Critical reception

Allgame gave the game a 3 star rating. The review noted "The biggest problem with Madeline Thinking Games is Madeline herself. [She] only has two to three phrases of congratulation per game, and listening to them over and over and over again gets awfully tiring", adding that the difference in the three difficulty levels fluctuates based on the minigame. It also says " Not all of these activities can actually be considered educational".[6]

Cyber Reviews wrote the Madeline books have been "excellently implemented into an animated educational CD by The Learning Company." Commenting on how the television series and video game create a multi-platform user experience, the site added "To me, the videos and the CD work together and Creative Wonders has been successful in extending my kids' learning from merely watching an educational show to an interactive experience with some of their favorite animated characters."[7] PC Mag wrote "the combination of activities, Madeline's warmth as host, and very attractive screens" make this game a "gentle activity platform for younger children".[5]
