Madison Gesiotto (born Madison Mari Gesiotto on March 20, 1992) is an American journalist,[1] columnist, figure skater,[2] model,[3] and beauty queen who won Miss Ohio USA 2014.[4] She represented the state of Ohio on NBC and Univision at Miss USA 2014 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on June 8, 2014.[5] She is currently the author of a weekly column titled Millennial Mindset and frequently anchors news briefings for The Washington Times.[6]
Early life
Gesiotto was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Growing up, she attended Jackson Local Schools in Massillon, Ohio and trained as a competitive figure skater in Lakewood, Ohio at The Winterhurst Figure Skating Club. Gesiotto's coach, Olympic Champion and former actress Carol Heiss, led her to reach the highest level of figure skating. In 2010, she passed her gold/senior tests in free skating and moves-in-the-field, the highest tests in figure skating required to compete in the Olympic Games.[2]
Education
Gesiotto graduated with honors from The Ohio State University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.[7]
She is currently attending The Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University, where she earning her J.D. in addition to her B.A. in Public Affairs Journalism.[8]
Pageants
Miss Ohio USA 2013
Gesiotto represented Columbus at the Miss Ohio USA pageant in 2013, where she placed 3rd runner-up.[9]
Miss Ohio USA 2014
Gesiotto represented Mid Ohio at the Miss Ohio USA pageant in 2014, where was crowned Miss Ohio USA 2014.[10][11] This was her second attempt at the state title, having placed 3rd Runner-Up the previous year. She was recognized following her win in a resolution created by Ohio State Senator Scott Oelslager and members of The Ohio Senate's 130th General Assembly.[12]
After winning Miss Ohio USA, Gesiotto was featured on various television news outlets for her promotion of political awareness and her fundraising for Wounded Warrior Project, including NBC4i,[13] FOX28,[14] and Fox 8 News [15] where she "wowed" Kristi Capel and Stefani Schaefer.[16]
She was also featured in The New York Times along with Bill Alverson.[17][18]
Miss USA 2014
Gesiotto competed in the Miss USA 2014 competition on June 8, 2014, representing the state of Ohio.[19]
She passed on her title to Miss Ohio USA 2015 in November 2014.[20] Shortly after, Gesiotto was named #56 on Smartasses Radio's 2015 Top 100 Sexiest Women Alive list.[21]
Career
Gesiotto previously worked for Mitt Romney's 2012 Presidential Campaign and on The United States Senate Small Business Committee.[22]
She is a former video journalist for The Washington Times, having previously filmed The Washington Times Exclusive Weekend Briefing [23] and The Washington Times Exclusive Daily Briefing.[24] Gesiotto also writes Millennial Mindset, a weekly column which focuses on various American political, policy, and legal issues.[25] Gesiotto also works as a staff editor at Moritz College of Law for The Ohio State Journal of Criminal Law, the number one criminal law journal in the country.[26] She is pro-life, calling abortion the "The number one killer of black Americans",[27] a column that resulted in opposition from students and staff.[28]
When in need of quotes for her articles, Gesiotto has been known to reach out to friends and former pageant contenders to fill in the blanks.
In one such column, she quoted Megan Wise,[29] who she formerly competed against in Miss Ohio competitions.[30] No formal disclosure of their relationship was included in the article.
