Maduro Holding B.V. is the holding company of the Maduro Group, a private Dutch conglomerate based in the Dutch Caribbean. The company is headquartered in Willemstad, Curaçao.

History

S.E.L Maduro & Son's is the oldest continuously operating business in Curaçao, founded in 1837. By the early 20th century, Curaçao's stable government, its proximity to Venezuelan oil, a deep natural harbor, and the opening of the Panama Canal caused Shell to build the Refinería Isla, the largest refinery in the world at the time.[1] S.E.L. soon expanded into various shipping services to supporting increasing port activity.

During World War II, Willemstad served as the primary port of call for tankers transporting aviation fuel to the Allies in Northern Africa and Great Britain.[1] During this time, George Maduro, a war hero, fought and died for the Netherlands against Nazi occupation forces.

In 1917, Maduro and local financier Joseph Alvarez-Correa founded Maduro's Bank, the predecessor to Maduro & Curiel's Bank.[2]

Present day

The Maduro Group currently operates as a shipping agency, logistical provider, travel agency, real estate owner and transportation provider. The company provides a wide range of logistical services including international sea and airfreight forwarding, ship husbandry, warehousing and local distribution services.

Launched in 2006, Insel Air serves as the national airline of Curaçao.
