Early life

Magnum was born Thomas Holstrom on March 22, 1971, in Malmö, Sweden. His mother was a bank teller at Riksbank and his father was a well-known architect. Though not from a very musical background, Holstrom became interested in music in his late teens, after befriending the sci-fi electro band S.P.O.C.K.. He worked extensively with the band, helping them to develop the sound that brought them so much attention. He began to go by the nickname Magnum St.Pierre - from the town Saint-Pierre in Eastern Canada, after having traveled there with S.P.O.C.K..

North American career

Magnum moved to San Francisco in 1999, with his wife Heidi Holstrom, and opened Ensuite Studios in 2001 as a cutting-edge recording studio which primarily recorded and produced dance music. He also worked in Los Angeles, Seattle and Vancouver, traveling along the west coast producing pop and dance artists.

Death

On July 4, 2008, he was traveling back to Malmö with his wife to visit family and friends. Arriving in Stockholm, he complained of feeling unwell upon; by the time they arrived at his hotel, he had entered a state of cardiac arrest. He was rushed to Karolinska University Hospital where he was pronounced dead on the following morning.[1] He had been a long time sufferer from Crohn's disease which is believed may have contributed to cause of death.[1] He is survived by his wife Heidi, his mother, father, and his younger brother Jakob.
