Mahasin al-Hawati

Mahasin al-Hawati is a Yemeni writer and journalist.[1] She was born in the Sudan in 1969 and has worked at the Yemeni Ministry of Immigration. She has also served as chief editor of the journal Al-Watan. Hawati has published several volumes of short stories, including al-Hukm ala Zaynab (2001), Mamnu istihab al-atfal (2004) and Sana'a allati (2007). Her work has been translated into Italian and was included in Perle dello Yemen, a 2009 anthology of Yemeni literature. Through her writings and activities, Hawati has also attracted the ire of traditionalists, a fact that was noted in a regional human rights report in 2007.[2]
